adminKeymasterDear Member
With another year passed since my last end-of-season communication I trust that everyone is looking back on a successful 2023 season. We have competed well, added an extra league team, introduced new members, integrated Thorndon Carpet Bowls and held numerous
events which have contributed to the financial stability of our Club.
Last Autumn’s investment in our Green has shown dividends and further investment is planned for this Autumn and Spring
In preparation for our AGM at 7pm on Tuesday 31st October at the Village Hall, a reminder that we need any member proposals for the AGM agenda to be with me, or any committee member, by 10th October 2023.
This year, by way of change, we have arranged for our Annual Prize giving for Club Competitions to take place immediately following the AGM.
For me, the most outstanding feature of our 2023 has been the willingness of so many members to lend a hand with the running of our Club in a wide and varied number of ways. There are far too many to list and I thank you all.
We were proud to host three SCWBA games together with my Stowmarket League President’s Day, the Stowmarket League Finals and the Upper Waveney League Semi-Finals and Finals. A tremendous amount of planning and work went into all of the events attracting praise from all those who attended. Those events raised a considerable amount of money for the Club, as you will see when year-end accounts are circulated.
We are fortunate in that Thorndon Bowls Club has a very committed membership and 2023 has proven to be very successful both on, and off, the green. The Committee intends to build upon those strengths to ensure that Thorndon remains a friendly, welcoming club-for
members and visitors-while striving to be as good a bowls club as we can. Everybody can contribute to these aims.
Most imminently we will be seeking to appoint an Assistant Secretary as Barbara has found it necessary to stand down from the role in which she has provided terrific support. Alongside, or within that role, we require someone to take the minutes of our committee meetings and AGM.
Following the closing date for proposals a full agenda will be circulated, along with supporting papers in good time for the AGM.
I encourage as many members as possible to attend and contribute to the future on our Club.
In closing, I have one correction to make to Graham’s last email. Due to differing formats of our home computers Graham didn’t receive a correction to the Carpet Bowls rink fees which should read £3 per player. My oversight and please accept my apologies.
Best Regards.
David
